Where my life was then...
When I was 14, I migrated to the United States, and although I didn’t fully understand it then, I realized it was because my family was searching for a better life.
Growing up, I faced many challenges, including adapting to a new culture. Despite the hardships, I had a strong spirit and a burning desire to make something of myself.
At 18, I made a life-changing decision to join the military. It was a bold and scary move for a young immigrant girl, but this option presented a direction that resonated with my desires.
In the military, I faced numerous obstacles and had many moments of self-doubt. Most times, I lacked confidence because I was constantly comparing myself to my peers, who seemed to have everything I lacked.
Yet, despite these challenges, I persevered and excelled in my military duties, earning the respect of some of my superiors and colleagues.
Life took another turn; I married at 19 and became a mother at 24. Balancing my military responsibilities with the demands of being a wife and mother proved daunting. I often felt overwhelmed and doubted my ability to fulfill these roles effectively. However, I refused to let my doubts hold me back. With resilience and determination, I found a balance, providing love and support to my family the best way I knew how while still excelling as a soldier.
But life had more in store for me. At the peak of my military success, I received a medical diagnosis that rocked my world and shook my faith. The news left me feeling broken and unsure of my future. There were moments when I questioned my purpose and struggled to find the motivation to fulfill my responsibilities as a wife, mother, and leader.
However, my indomitable spirit refused to be defeated. I sought support and solace in the love of my family and friends. With time, I decided that “a” diagnosis would not define me or the direction of my life. Despite my challenges, I continued to excel in my military duties, constantly pushing myself to be the best version of myself.
Through personal reflection and guidance, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery, reclaiming my identity and reconnecting with my passions and dreams.
I encountered moments of self-discovery and introspection, realizing I did not know who I was; I had no idea. I had many talents and skills, but I needed to figure out my purpose.
In the moments of feeling lost and uncertain, I realized that I was not allowing myself to dream and explore my dreams, and I was moving through life (on autopilot), fulfilling my respective roles as was expected of me.
I decided to embrace the challenges and uncertainties, knowing each experience was an opportunity for growth and self-discovery.
In this season of my life, I get to explore everything possible, including politics and growing my business differently. I will continue to allow myself to explore all my dreams and feel empowered doing so.
This is a reminder that life's journey will not always be smooth, and self-doubt and hardships will come up. However, you can overcome even the most challenging circumstances with resilience, determination, and courage, believing you can be more, do more, and have more.
You can connect with your strengths, dare to find your true self, and embrace your journey toward being the next best version of yourself.
